It’s hard to believe we’ve managed to assemble 100 posts for Sawyer’s blog in just five short months, mostly due to Abby’s sheer delight in sharing Sawyer’s finer moments (and his uncanny ability to create them). It’s even harder to believe that we’ve started each and every post with “Sawyer” as the first word; that was my idea, thinking it would be an entertaining constraint that would necessitate some creative work on our part. I think you’ll agree that we fared pretty well.

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology I can easily link to each and every one of the previous 99 posts below, starting with the most recent and stretching all the way back to January 1, 2008. Chances are we’ll see you before you see this, but for those of you who have to wait, here’s a little something to tide you over!

I can’t wait for you to see Sawyer, and I know he’s more than ready to see you!

I have wanted to do this post for a while. We had our first sock casualty yesterday somewhere between Kearny and Market Streets. He has outgrown all of his infant socks, so I was on a sock finding mission. This is harder than one might think and also puts into perspective my new daily activities. One moment he had two socks on, the next time I looked down, there was just one green and blue roadster sock on his left foot. I should have known this would happen, as it is an hourly occurrence during the day while we are at home.

I feel sorry for that tiny, little socky now drifting its lonely way through Union Square. So in honor of that sock, I have put together a retrospective of our obsession with those two little feet with those 10 little toes and the funny little socks we have come to know and love. (Yes, Sawyer you are allowed to think that your mom is an absolute nutter years from now when you read this for the first time.)

Are you beginning to see the pattern? The right sock is always the first to go. Pjs with feet can’t even escape - or I guess it makes more sense to say that he can escape even from pjs with feet.

This is pretty much how we find him each morning nowadays. One sock on (left) and one sock off…or nearly so (right).

Farewell little roadster sock. We will miss you - especially because you matched the little plaid shorts we all love so much.

Sawyer has style

Wednesday night, Scott and I went out on our first date night since Sawyer arrived. Our good friends Erin and Rachel came over to babysit. From their recounting of the evenings events, it went pretty well. With the exception of a few mis-matched snaps on the bottom of Sawyer’s pj’s, I would say it was perfect, and we can’t thank them enough. Someday we may even remember to take a picture of Sawyer and Rachel for the blog to go along with the ones we have of Erin.

Sawyer was his happy little self in the morning. Usually we awake to see little feet flying back and forth, up and down, and in and out of the top and sides of the crib. No matter how tired I am, this always brings a smile to my face. This morning, Sawyer was not only bringing a smile to my face, he was making me laugh out loud.

Notice his roosterdo hair peeking out up top.

It is amazing to me how he can wake up almost every morning with the biggest, brightest smile. It is what a Visa commercial would call “Priceless”.

Thanks for voting on Sawyer’s hairstyle this weekend. I hope you’re happy to know that I will not cut his rooster do before our trip home this weekend.

This is what you have to look forward to:

I guess that means I get to make him look even more ridiculous when he gets out of his bath. Fortunately for him, the rest of his hair is slowly growing in beneath it. =)

Just four more days to go!

As I have mentioned before, just like me, Sawyer likes to cover up his eyes when he is going to sleep. He went to new lengths tonight. We have been ever vigilant with making sure he does not cover up too much of his face for the obvious choking hazards. Not only does he cover up, he also likes to turn to his side and press his face against the side of the crib. The two together lead to this scene. I, of course, snapped a quick picture, because describing it would not have done it justice. Sometimes Scott and I just look at each other, shake our heads, and say, “What a little weirdo.”

He loves his little blue lion blankie named “Roary”. It is perfect for helping him fall asleep. It is also perfect, because I became a bit obsessed with watching past seasons of the “Gilmore Girls”. Rory is a primary character. Scott loves to make fun of the never ending dialog on “the GG’s”.

It was a bit dark in the room, so the pictures are a little out of focus. As soon as I snapped that shot, he turned over and gave me his biggest and brightest smile.

By now, you’ve all seen the pictures of Sawyer’s mohawk, or as I now refer to it, his rooster do. Here’s a classic picture to refresh your memory:

Sawyer's hair is barely there

I have been trying to convince Abby to let me trim it to match the rest of his hair, but she doesn’t want to just yet. And so I thought it might be fun to let all of you vote on it, in the hopes of resolving this dilemma once and for all. =)

I am very excited to bring Sawyer back home to see his grandparents, aunt, and uncles again. You will be amazed at how much bigger and stronger he is now. He’s more alert and attentive, intrigued and inquisitive too. I have a feeling we might even see him crawl for the first time.

I am also equally excited to introduce him to more of his extended family, but very eager to see him with my Mother and Grandmother for the very first time. Sawyer will also get to meet the Lambs, Dioguardis, Ernsts, and Kollars if all goes well. I know we’ll have plenty of pictures to share.

And I am especially excited to see our friends old and new. There is much to love about our life in San Francisco, but we left behind an incredible network of really good friends too, even more of whom have kids of their own now. Sawyer is more aware of other babies and younger kids, so it will be endlessly entertaining to watch them interact.

We have just a little over one more week to go. Until then, here’s a quick four minute video from the other day. Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Sawyer has been experiencing a growth spurt over the past couple of days. It has left him very unpredictable and Scott and I pretty tired. I haven’t been able to get any new good photos. I remembered, however, that I did have a bit of a backlog of photos that never made it to the blog.

In just about 10 days, we will be back in Ohio where we hope to enjoy bright, sunny weather (fingers crossed). Our last trip home was during Easter, so we didn’t post any Easter pics. Sawyer’s Great Grandma Ernst, known as GG to the family, did not get to meet him while we were home. She did, however, have an Easter outfit waiting for him. We can’t wait for her to meet him in person very soon.

The bunny was a gift from his Great Aunt Mary. Hopefully she will get to meet him this time too!

He’s not sad, though. He spent the other morning in his little blue outfit given to him by a very dear friend of mine, Rebecca (Ferrell) Thomas. Rebecca and I grew up together in Bath. I had tried repeatedly to get a good picture of Sawyer in this outfit over the past couple of months, but in one way or another it always ended up with yuck on it before I could take the picture. I finally succeeded as he was distracted by all of his little blue friends. Thanks again for the super soft, comfy outfit!

This is how Scott used to suck his two fingers. Grandma Penny said that this picture brings back good memories.

Scott and I are too. San Francisco is experiencing a heat wave. It was over 95° today. While Scott and co-workers enjoyed a fun-filled day at the ballpark watching the SF Giants almost win (after blowing a 7-1 lead), Sawyer and I tried to keep cool. My method was to put a cold, wet washcloth on his forehead. It worked; he decrankified pretty quickly.
