Technically it’s a Cheeky Chick, but Abby came up with green grasshopper and it kinda stuck. My sister Sarah and brother Kevin gave it to him for his first birthday, and I am so grateful that I held off buying it for him until after the holidays, it’s much more special coming from them.

Here is his first time on it way back in December:

Fun to push.

Getting a push.

THIS IS AWESOME!

We weren’t able to bring it home on the plane, so Kevin shipped it back for us. It was waiting for me one night after Sawyer went to bed so I had it waiting for him in the morning. He was very excited to see it sitting in our living room:

Now he’s almost tall enough to reach the ground with his feet, no more tippy toes needed. And yes, he even knows what “wheeeeeeeellls” are:

Later that day the three of us went for a walk to Levi’s Plaza, where Abby used to work. Abby and I let him push grasshopper back and forth for a good ten minutes, until he could go no more. I forgot the camera of course, so we tried to recreate the magic the following night in the fitness center downstairs. This is the result:

He’s starting to get the hang of riding it, and more or less nailed his dismount, but is easily distracted by exercise balls:

The exercise room has great echoes and plenty of mirrors:

Finally, one last long hallway to the elevators:

It always amazes me that he knows his way around our building. Or maybe he just bluffs his way through it. Either way, he gets plenty of practice now because every night after dinner one or both of us take him down for a few laps around the fitness center. He always goes right to sleep without a fuss after his workout and a bath.

Thanks, Sarah and Kevin!
