You know how much I love to make way too many bubbles in Sawyer’s bath so I can pile them high on his head, right? Remember the Bob Ross pictures? I think I finally topped that:
Yep, that’s Sawyer under there:
It almost seems like he likes it:
Later, I went with more of a World B. Free meets the Tele Tubbies look:
Which then went in the direction of Dumbledore, as I painstakingly applied the beard:
He’s casting a spell:
Nope, just playing:
He’s such a good sport, I honestly don’t know how I get away with it!
When my parents moved to their new house about ten years ago, Scott and I convinced my parents that their Wassily chairs did not go with their new decor. We also convinced them that they would look perfect in our apartment. They have lived with us ever since. True, one chair has an enormous rip down the center and the other has a new rip on the arm, but we love them. They have been in the family for 22 years.
Sawyer likes them too. Here he is lounging.
This is what I looked up from cooking dinner to see.
I much prefer when he just sits nicely,…
…and watches “Horton Hears a Who” while I make dinner.
The chairs have a pretty stiff angle to them. Once he gets up, he can’t get down.
So he stays stuck.
What a goofball.
Grandma and Grandpa Truitt sent Sawyer a guitar for Valentine’s Day. It didn’t take him very long to understand how to keep the music going. There is a little laser light that goes through the hole in the center. The light beam has to be interrupted to keep the good times rolling.
Not only can he keep playing while he is holding it, but also while it is on the floor. A little person in the middle works great. He also uses his blocks for this purpose too. Good thinking, Sawyer.
As you have seen, Sawyer has an obsession with strollers. I think it is mostly because of the wheels. On the advice of a mom at the park of a four year old boy, I got Sawyer a buggy of his own. He absolutely loves it.
He isn’t too fond of actually pushing any of his friends around. Poor Patric, at least he is dressed well.
Wearing his new tractor shirt (his second favorite piece of heavy machinery) and the pants his Great Grandma Ernst bought him, Sawyer runs rampant around the house. Moo cow makes an appearance, and his new truck and farm puzzles join the show too, mostly just to sop up the slobber. How does he deal with teething? You’ll just have to watch:
Later, Sawyer plays with a few of his favorite toys. And yes, he’s still making that same noise:
His shirt is completely soaked. What a nutter!
Sarah, Michael, and Matthew were all born on February 24th. Michael and Matthew turn 21 today!!! Here is a little trip down memory lane for all.
After an outside tubby on a very hot day last June.
Michael and Sawyer.
Matthew and Sawyer. So glad no one would let us cut the rooster-doo.
Green grasshopper from Sarah and Uncle Kevin.
I wonder what they are wondering about.
The birthday boy with today’s birthday boy.
On Saturday, the three of us met up with our old neighbors Zane, Christine, and Dylan. While we waited for them on the Embarcadero, Sawyer entertained not only us but everyone who passed him with his grasshoppering and bicycle-chasing:
Once they showed up, Sawyer wasted no time in going to work. He’s done it with his empty buggy before, but this is entirely new. Dylan seemed no worse the wear:
And now you know why he was so tired!
After dinner tonight, Sawyer hopped on his grasshopper and proceeded to go absolutely crazy with it. We missed the first half of his antics, but were lucky to catch the second half:
The video hardly does it justice, but the audio alone is worth the price of admission!
Sawyer woke up early this morning, and by early I mean way-too-early, just a few minutes before 6am. Unfortunately it was my turn to get up with him, but fortunately he was entertaining enough for both of us. Here he is at breakfast, shoving his mouth full of “Morning O’s,” singing songs as only he can, and showing his apple eating skills:
After a fun afternoon with Zane, Christine, and Dylan, and a long nap after that, we went to the Ferry Building to grab some dinner from our favorite Japanese deli. Sawyer was a bottomless pit, and ate everything we threw at him: a potato croquette, wasabe mashed potatoes, green beans with sesame dressing, chicken dumplings, pork cutlets, rice, soba noodles, tofu, am I forgetting anything Abby? If you can get past my annoying game of “up / down” (he really does play along, just not tonight) you’ll find a wealth of Sawyer firsts (at least on video). Enjoy:
I can’t wait to see him eat corn on the cob this summer!
I woke up last Friday morning to find Sawyer completely covered in yogurt. Abby was trying to teach him how to use a spoon, but he wasn’t interested. Instead he just dunked his fingers and shoved them in his mouth, or at least attempted to. Since the sun was reflecting into our apartment and my phone was right there, I grabbed a couple of quick pics to share with you.
Here’s the aftermath (note the mess on the tray):
Yes, he’s watching his sign language video again (note the buffet in his bib):
An absolute mess, as usual:
As far as I know she hasn’t tried that again, but I definitely want to be there if and when she does!
Last Saturday, Abby and I took Sawyer to the California Academy of the Sciences, Unfortunately, we weren’t the only ones with this idea. It is always jam packed on the weekends, and even with our membership it’s sometimes tough to get in, but I really wanted to go.
Once inside, we went right to the penguin exhibit. I worked my way up to the glass with Sawyer so he had a good view. I know he’s grown, but I hadn’t realized how much. Last time he was well beneath the water line, this time he was head and shoulders above it (to be fair, they were cleaning the tank so maybe there was less water, but still). There’s only one good shriek at the beginning, but I was able to get a close up of his expressions as the penguins swim by:
It was very hot and way over-crowded so we decided to run over to the de Young Museum for lunch. Afterward, we went upstairs to see the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit. The exhibit was far too tempting to Sawyer’s mischievous nature, so he and I went and explored the Africa collection while Abby took in the YSL collection. We met up with her at the end and went to see some more of the permanent collection (fascinating stuff, really, I had no idea it was so extensive).
Sawyer was getting antsy, so Abby let him down to burn off what little energy he had left. This is how he did it:
He’s been doing more of an Axl Rose dance when he walks, but this time he added the clapping with it. While these aren’t the best videos of Sawyer, they give a pretty good idea of what life is like with the little guy. He’s always attentive, always moving, and always having a good time!
