Last week, Sawyer and I went to the grocery store. He just had dinner so I didn’t bring anything for him to munch on, and I figured we could make it in and out without his binky too, but about half way through he started fidgeting. I grabbed an apple from the cart, shined it on my shirt, and gave it to him to play with. I looked down not a minute later to find him devouring it!
I didn’t think to take pictures until we were leaving, so I snapped a couple quick ones on my phone. Here’s what eight teeth can do to an apple — note that he ate through the core too:
Yep, he’s stuffing his face. And to think we always cut up his apples into bite-sized pieces. No need to do that anymore:
He was an absolute mess, with apple chunks in his jacket, on his pants, and all over the cart, plus his hands and arms were soaked:
He wasn’t happy when I took it from him, but my dad never let us eat in his car, and there was no way I was going to let him eat that mushy mess in ours. His disappointment was short-lived, especially once we saw some buses, a digger and dump truck doing work on the street, and a fire engine on the way home. That’s the Sawyer trifecta!

That reminds me of that monkey on SNL who devoured apples. I think his name was Mr. Peepers.
Sawyer, we can all vouch for the not eating in your Grandpa car. My favorite memory is when Bailey’s health was not too good and we needed to go somewhere with him. It was very hard to get him in and out of the mini so he got to ride in the BMW.
Sawyer, I told Grandpa I was going to Whole Foods today and he asked me to get him some apples like you were eating!
Mom, I can hear Dad saying that. Just wait until Sawyer wants to walk around your house with a pulverized apple in one hand, a fist full of crackers in the other, and a leaky sippy cup pinned to his chest!
Kevin, Mr. Peepers is definitely the one, I can’t believe you remembered that. Sawyer eats apples with the same gusto, though not as ridiculously fast! Here’s a clip of Mr. Peepers for those of you who don’t know or need a reminder. =)
