At the end of the week, the five of us gathered for a quick family picture. I’m not sure why no one thought to put Sawyer in something other than his pajamas or how he was able to keep his binky in. Nevertheless, this one deserves to be framed:

Family fun

But this one is most definitely the best:

Family fun

Sawyer came up to me this morning, handed me my phone, and said “Pampa.” I called him and let Sawyer ramble on about cars, garage doors, and trucks for a few minutes. I think both of them enjoyed it. When I got home Sawyer did the same thing, asking for “Meema” this time, so they too had their fun.

I am so grateful for the time we shared, and look forward to seeing them again soon!

I tried for a couple days to get Sawyer to “read” the book that his Grandma D. gave him a few months ago. It wasn’t easy, but I was able to get him to do it this morning. The video is a bit wobbly in areas due to the fact that I am holding the camera while trying to get us in the shot.

Happy Birthday to my mom, and Sawyer’s grandma!

I was going to name this post, “Sawyer gets cranky at the De Young, eats some pizza, wears his monkey undies, and colors with his Grandma,” but that was too long. True, but a bit much.

After SoccerTots in the morning, Sawyer took a big nap. When he woke, we went to the Cal Academy, or tried to but couldn’t since it was free for all that day, and much too crowded:

Instead we went to the De Young Museum to take in the view (as usual on days like this one, there’s a little bit of blue sky above the Financial District):

Everywhere else is covered in fog:

Sawyer started out cute and calm with the binky:

I love this picture:

But quickly turned ornery:

And then violent. End of that story. After an extended break at the park, and lots of swinging, we grabbed some pizza and headed back home. I put on Sawyer’s monkey undies for comedic relief:

K-ons and underpants.

Coloring with his meema:

He prefers to eat crayons, not pizza. Keeping his k-ons out of his mouth is a never-ending battle, but one that my mom handled quite well:

No eating crayons!

Nothing works better than Pampa’s arm for racing cars:

Pampa's arm makes a good highway.

There’s no better way to brighten his day than a trip to the park. In fact he now says “park” whenever he passes one in the car, just to let you know that he’s paying attention.

On Thursday afternoon, the four of us walked down to the park by Mountain Lake. The sun even came out for a bit too. Here he proves that he really does love swings and cars:

Swings and cars, nothing better.

Perhaps not as much as his grandma and grandpa:

He’s constantly asking to be put in a swing only to ask out of it after a minute so that he can try the swing right next to him. I’m not sure what he expects, but it’s an amusing game for him to play:

Or just sleepy:

Nope, he has an almost endless supply of energy:

Going up is way more fun than going down:

Especially when it comes to the top of the playground structure (we’re a good 20 feet off of the ground):

Then back down to play in the sand:

Of course after this calm and relaxing moment, we went for the crazy concrete slide!

My favorite memory of the previous week, aside from the dinner I shared with Abby for our fifth anniversary, was the crazy concrete slide. For some reason I thought it would be fun to take Sawyer down too, even though I had never even done it by myself. It’s a good 20 - 30 feet long, has a dip in the middle, and an abrupt end as you will soon see. Oh, and you slide down on a cardboard box!

The beginning:

The long slide.

So far so good:

Pretty sure Sawyer is airborne in this one:

We’re really moving now:

And then, ouch! The slide flattens out all of a sudden:

As if that wasn’t enough, I had to figure out how to stop our momentum without tossing Sawyer into the sand:

It was far from graceful, but we survived, and Sawyer wasn’t even bothered in the least. In fact, I think he kinda liked it. I know my Dad loved it.

Well, I can’t say for sure, but I do know that he loved every second of the “up and down” game. My parents bounced him most of the way home from the park on Thursday, and had it been up to him they never would have stopped:

Here’s three generations of Truitt men. I love this picture:

It all started at the park:

Many more pictures and videos to come!

Normally when he gets to the end of the slide, he turns around to climb back up again. Not so this time, he’s off to the races with some random kid who lacked both manners and clues. But I digress, look at Sawyer go:

He’s pretty much fearless of slides now, which I think is a good thing. He always takes his time and goes relatively slow, but I still watch him like a hawk just in case. I have to get some video of the way he climbs up slides too, the boy is sherpa at heart!

Here’s a handful of somewhat random pictures from my phone from last weekend at the zoo. They pretty much encompass the entire time he was sick with a fever, or what we now know was Roseola.

On the merry-go-round (and generally feeling pretty good about it):

Sawyer loves the merry-go-round

On Little Puffer (and not too happy about it):

And the morning after with the world’s best bedhead:

Thankfully he’s doing much better now, just in time for my parents to visit next week!

At the zoo we visited the merry-go-round, the visiting Fisher-Price toy tent, the Little Puffer train, and the penguins. Of all of these things, he found this to be the most entertaining.

Sawyer loves the merry-go-round. He is slightly impatient while waiting for the bell to ring, and the ride to start. This merry-go-round was build in 1921, and it still looks great.
