Sawyer really liked to line up his blocks last week. Here he goes again, but much more elaborately. This is for Uncle Kevin, Happy Birthday!
Choo-choos too!
One last bouncy video.
When I first saw the announcement for the block party, I made a mental note but didn’t think much else about it. When we came from home SoccerTots on Saturday and saw the gigantic bounce houses in the middle of the street, I knew immediately that I sorely underestimated my neighbors. It was really cool to see:
Sawyer wasn’t too sure of the bounce house at first:
But after lunch, a good nap, and a change of clothes, he was much more adventurous:
He loved seeing Abby on the other side of the net:
And even on the inside too:
It only looks like he’s standing still:
He’s bouncing in circles:
He even got to enjoy his first orange pushup, as you might imagine it was messy and very sticky, but he didn’t seem to mind:
I was able to get him somewhat cleaned up, and even managed to put his shoes back on, so we could walk over to listen to one of the many bands that played that day. Abby brilliantly pointed out that they sounded like a Hoops and Yoyo soundtrack! So true:
All in all, it was a beautiful day to play outside. Sawyer loved every second of it, so much so that he was very disappointed not to see the bounce houses in the middle of the street this morning. He went to the window, turned to me, said bounce, and then proceeded to bounce all across the living room floor. Not quite the same sensation, but he didn’t seem to mind.
Within toddlerhood there are many milestones. Many are well known like talking, eating with utensils, and potty training. Some are less well known like stacking, collecting, and sorting. As we’ve all seen many times, Sawyer loves to line up his cars and trucks. Now he has moved on to blocks. His assortments are quite colorful.
After about 10 minutes of it being “too quiet”, I went in to see what Sawyer was up to. I was happy to find him quietly playing with his blocks.
I love the red and green pattern he started.
Next, he decided to tackle stacking the diapers. He plays stacking games at soccer, but this is a bit ridiculous.
Looking a little guilty.
Precision is key.
Or not. He did put almost all of them back by himself without me asking. I couldn’t ask for much more.
Watch him go! Just a little push and he rolls right down the hill:
Good thing he had on his helmet. He took a little spill after this video while trying to sit back down on the board. He was pleasantly surprised when his helmet landed first and he was no worse the wear. Probably the last thing I want him to learn, but I was grateful nonetheless. That’s good parenting!
I originally bought Sawyer a Skuut when we first moved into our new place. It’s for years two and up, so I knew it was too big for him right away, but I expected him to quickly take to it. He’s just barely tall enough to touch the ground now, and as you’ll see from the video he much prefers to walk than ride:
Won’t be that way for long:
He really loved my old skateboard too:
There’s another longer video of him on the skateboard, but I need to get it off of Abby’s computer. [Update, here it is.] Our street has a little bit of a downward slope, and once I gave him a small push he took off. You can imagine he absolutely loved that. Watch for it tomorrow.
It was another late night last week, and Sawyer showed no signs of going to bed. As you’ll soon see, he was all spun up from signing and dancing to “Wheels on the Bus.” He really, really gets into it:
Even now and then he’ll even sign the last line, “all through the town.” Mostly he just spins and mimics my arm movements. And yes, I think interpretive dance is the correct way to describe it, don’t you?
Sarah and Kevin wisely decided to buy Sawyer a gift instead of one for me on my birthday. I couldn’t be happier, and given the fact that Sawyer played with his new animal choo choo train pretty much non-stop, I think it’s safe to say he’s thrilled too:
It’s hard to imagine how they continue to top their previous gifts. They’re responsible for the cars that he still plays with, the digger fork and spoon that he uses all the time, and the green grasshopper that gave him so many hours of fun.
Thank you for being so thoughtful, Sarah and Kevin!
As many of you know, my birthday was just a few days ago. My mom and dad were discussing the fact that it didn’t seem that 35 years had passed since I was born. To them, I should be about 20 — sounds good to me. I’m sure Penny and Steve feel the same way…plus one year.
Before Scott was a Daddy, he was a baby, …
…and a little boy on a slide, …
…Aquaboy, …
…a crossing guard with a huge walkman, …
…a freshman in high school, …
…the “frat boy” I fell in love with, …
…and the man I married.
Now he’s a proud papa,…
…who loves to swing, …
…and read lots and lots of books
…and rest when he can.
Thanks to my friend Katherine, who shared a book that she created for her husband and daughter to enjoy. It is titled, “Before Daddy was Daddy”! Such a creative idea!
For reasons not entirely clear, Sawyer woke up at 1am last night and did not want to be in his crib. Abby pulled him out and he went right into the living room to play with his toys. I tried to go back to sleep, but eventually got up too. Here’s what I saw after sitting down.
First, Sawyer finishes lining up anything and everything with wheels (listen for his “all done”). He also obsesses about wanting to see the foghorn, or “corn” in his parlance, since he can hear it outside:
Sawyer then takes to playing with his puzzles and continues to be distracted by the foghorn. I tried to convince him that it was me making the sound, but he didn’t buy it:
Fortunately he went right to bed after the second video, and even slept in well past 7am. As entertaining as he was last night, I really hope we don’t have a repeat performance tonight!
