Am I really a month behind still? I know I missed out on at least another day’s worth of pictures prior to Christmas. I’ll dig those up and post them tomorrow…
The morning began with Sawyer in his Lightning McQueen pajamas, playing with blocks:
Look at the concentration:
Warming himself by the fire (my favorite Christmas tradition):
Yep, looking for cars:
And pretty happy about what he’s getting:
Cars:
More cars, please:
I see Doc Hudson and Sarge:
Either talking cars or puzzles with PePa:
I’m guessing cars:
Or maybe it was ceiling fans:
Yep:
What’s over there:
Finishing up the day in his Choo Choo Train pajamas with MeMa:
It’s hard to believe that was just over a month ago. Time sure does fly!
This is a story of how Sawyer opened his Christmas presents this past holiday.
“More Cars!”
“What’s this? Where are the cars?”
“This looks cool! Is is a car? Where are the wheels?”
“Ummmm… I was told there would be more cars.”
“Ummmm… I’ve been looking, and I can’t find any cars in here.”
“Okay, where is the next present with cars in it?”
Luckily there were plenty of presents with cars and trucks inside. Once he got past the opening, he loved all of his new gifts… even if they aren’t cars.
Even now, well over a month after he got it, Sawyer still loves to look into his flashlight — while it’s on, of course. Here he is just minutes after the gift was given:
That’s better:
Nope, right back to it:
Okay:
I’m not sure what he expects to see either. Maybe he likes seeing spots. I love the tent too, I only wish we had room for it here. I know he’ll be thrilled to see it the next time we’re home.
Thank you, Mema and Pepa T for such a thoughtful gift. I never would have considered getting him one, but it’s one of his favorite things to play with.
Almost immediately upon our arrival at Mema and Pepa T.’s house, it was time for us to celebrate Sawyer’s belated birthday. Sawyer got so many amazing new toys, and he definitely gets “Presents”!
Opening gifts is really hard work which takes a lot of determination.
Uncle Kevin gets this one started.
Aunt Sarah helps.
After this box, Sawyer wondered why every other present didn’t have cars inside.
Birthday hat!
The new line-up with some of Scott and Kevin’s old favorites, and Sawyer’s new cars.
Playing cars with Pepa T.
Sit ‘n Spin is slightly difficult to turn when he won’t put down the car.
Thank you to Mema, Pepa, Sarah, and Kevin for the amazing gifts. Your thank you cards, personally “stamped” by Sawyer, are in the mail.
It is really hard to catch up with all the fun and exciting things Sawyer did in Ohio. Our blog is essentially still on the first few days of the trip. I’m pretty sure by the smile on his face, that getting to “drive” in Pepa D.’s race car was definitely a highlight.
Meeting #99.
In the driver’s seat.
Pure joy.
In Pepa’s lap.
Learning how it all works.
This is my favorite pic.
Well, I really like this one too.
Not giving up the wheel.
“Nother race car ov’r d’air”
Still driving.
“Race car downstairs” was heard many times while we were there.
I neglected to mention Sawyer’s other favorite thing to do at the Doernberg’s: watch videos of race cars. So the list now reads, piano, kitty, stairs, and race cars. Sawyer actually sat still long enough for me to get some great pictures of him and Bob.
He really is serious about his music:
And very much a performer:
I bet he’s looking at a kitty:
Great picture:
Later, Sawyer sat down to watch some videos of Pepa in his race car. Hard to say which one enjoyed it more. Look at how closely Sawyer is watching Bob type:
And how much he wants to say “Sawyer do it”:
Happy as a clam:
Whoa:
No doubt telling me how he’s watching race cars:
Look at that smile:
Twins:
Just wait until he sees the race car up close!
Mike and Sawyer rode with me to pick up my winter boots that I had delivered to the wrong address, and along the way down I spied a caboose off of the freeway. Of course I had to stop on the way back.
I can tell when Sawyer is impressed, he doesn’t say a word. In fact he just kinda stands there in awe:
Count ‘em up: a caboose, a railroad crossing sign, and a concrete mixer. Not bad for a 82 second clip. Next, Mike, and the caboose, remind Sawyer to always be careful:
Unfortunately my phone croaked in the cold, so I wasn’t able to take any more pictures. You can imagine I had to peel him away from the caboose, but at least he was still crazy enough about the pickup truck to let it go.
Thanks for your help, Mike!
All of the mental notes I made about our time in Ohio have disappeared, but I guess that’s part of having the flu. Even though the details are foggy, the pictures and videos tell a good enough story on their own, especially this one with the piano and the kitty-cat.
Sawyer loved playing the “nano.” He’s quite good at it too, but he was forever tempted by the cat toys. Here’s one of the first times he sat before the piano. You can see he doesn’t last long:
I love that he wonders why the kitty doesn’t have any cars. He eventually caught Stumpleford (my nickname for the kitty) but was then tempted by the stairs:
This is pretty much the drill when watching Sawyer at the Doernberg’s: piano, kitty, stairs. To be fair, we have none of those things here, so I can’t really blame him. Plus, it is a great big place, and is so much fun to explore.
In the snow that is, and what a way to celebrate our last full day in Ohio! No matter how many times he landed face first in the snow he always looked up with a big toothy grin and said, “again.”
Here’s one of the nine videos Abby and I took of our snow adventure:
See you next time, snow. California here we come.
