And yes, that’s exactly how he says it. It’s not baseball. It’s baseball!

He is normally anti-hat, but Sawyer absolutely loves that Chicago Cubs one. It’s most likely because Pepa T has been showing it to him on skype for what seems like forever now. In the beginning, Sawyer would yell out “C” in response. Now he knows it means baseball!

Though a bit large, it just so happened to match the rest of his outfit perfectly:

Baseball!

I think he knows how cute he looks:

Not sure what he’s going for here, that bat isn’t a bike, Sawyer:

Practicing for his first little league baseball picture (that baseball looks so huge in his hands I originally thought it was a softball correction, Mema T informs me that is a softball):

By the end of his first time swinging the bat, Sawyer was able to make contact (with a little help from Pepa). He’s going to be a natural on the diamond, I can already see it. Sawyer most definitely loves baseball!

The three of us went to a Giants game just over two weeks ago. It was wearable blanket, aka snuggie, night at the yard, and we were hoping to score three to keep us warm in the cool San Francisco breeze. Sadly, we were too late, a situation frustrating enough on its own, but made even more aggravating by what seemed to be everyone else wearing their snuggies around us.

Here’s a shot of our view:

Good thing just holding Sawyer generates enough heat to keep Abby warm:

There’s a lot for him to take in, I’m pretty sure he was looking at numbers here:

I have to admit, I was cold too by the end of the night:

Last weekend, while chasing Sawyer around soccer practice, my phone rang. My company had some extra seats to the game that day, and my friend Will wanted to know if the three of us could go. Normally this is Sawyer’s nap time, but I was also told the seats were two rows behind home plate. There was no way any of us were going to miss this!

Fortunately, Sawyer took a small nap in the car:

After soccer, before baseball

He was still pretty tired at the game:

Good seats, eh?

But he managed. Sitting so close to the action more than kept his interest:

Are you kidding me? Two rows back, right behind home plate!

And it was much, much warmer that afternoon:

About halfway through the game, one of the ushers gave him a ball and completely made his day:

Sawyer caught a ball!

Later, he and I took a walk to change his diaper, and I showed him the batting cages behind the benches. This one had a player hitting some balls off of a tee in it, so Sawyer was mesmerized. He kept pointing to the nets and buckets of balls and saying, “I wanna go down there.” Good thing the guy eventually ended his practice session or we might still be there:

On our way back to the seats, someone else gave him some eye black to wear. His day just got better and better:

I managed to take a few quick family photos:

And when the game ended, the doors opened and the umpires walked right by us:

Since it’s quite likely the three of us will never sit this close again, Abby and I each posed for some quick pictures with Sawyer:

Sawyer and I are fortunate to have such a big baseball fan in our lives. Abby makes the games even more fun for me, and I know Sawyer feeds off of her excitement in the moment. I look forward to the days, I suspect not too far away, when he asks a million questions about what is happening in the game.

All in all, we had two great games and two great days at the ballpark. I can’t wait for our next baseball game together.

A friend of mine gave us his tickets to the baseball game on Saturday, so Abby, Sawyer, and I bundled up for a night at the ballpark. There was also a free bear for all kids under 14, which made the fact that Sawyer just learned that word this week even better:

He really likes to explore the space, fortunately all of those around us helped keep him entertained and safe:

I had a hankering for popcorn when we arrived, but I had no idea I would have to share so much of it with Sawyer:

This isn’t his first “no” but he sure is getting really good at it:

Last but not least, he really loves to run down the ramps in our basement. I was nervous at first, but he kept it together well:

Oh, and happy birthday to my Mom, Grandma Penny. Hope to see you and Grandpa Steve soon!

I realize I say it every time, but this really might be the funniest video of Sawyer to date. Look at the way he plays with my brother Kevin, his reaction to the crowd’s roar, his dancing and clapping, and so much more:

Sawyer didn’t last long after this video was taken, it was hot and he was very tired from all of the excitement. Abby took him home and he promptly went right to sleep.

To continue our night out at the ballpark, Sawyer enjoyed Scott’s fries…

…and my nachos.

We lasted through the sixth inning. The tunnel leading out went right behind home plate.

On our way out, we walked along the top walkway to see the cable car where an annoying little boy roared at Sawyer and scared him.

We finished with a stop by the kids’ ballpark to run the bases.

We are very happy to receive tickets to Thursday night’s Giants game against the Mets. Even though the Giants ended up losing. We had a very fun time, sitting in excellent seats between home and first base.

SF baseball is hardly ever warm. We dressed Sawyer accordingly. Thanks to GG Ernst for the baseball sweater. It goes well with the hat I knit for him.

He pretty much watched everything but the game, and he never sat still.

Ordering food.

He discovered the cup holders after about an inning. He entertained our neighbors by mimicking their every move.

Completing Abby’s post from yesterday, here are two videos from our afternoon at AT&T Park last Saturday.

First, Sawyer explores the outfield (he fakes like he’s going after the wheels on the other buggy, but there are far too many other things that catch his attention):

Next, Sawyer goes straight for the wheels on the cars on the left field wall:

He ended up walking all over the park that day, and almost half-way home before he finally tired. He was asleep as soon as we got back, washed up, and laid him down. Just two hours later I woke him up to meet Abby on Market Street to see the Chinese New Year Parade. He absolutely loved it too, watch for many videos coming soon!

This past Saturday, we went to FanFest for the SF Giants. Last year, Sawyer was just a little too young to appreciate it. This year, he had considerably more fun.

Last year (I still had my invisalign brackets on my teeth).

Sawyer’s new strategy. Instead of riding in the buggy, he likes to push.

When he wants down, he really wants down. Nothing will stop him.

No, it’s not what you think, especially since his once gigantic head is now merely normal for his age. This is about baseball, specifically the San Francisco Giants, our hometown team just a few blocks from our apartment.

Abby, Sawyer, and I went to the game last Friday night, and Sawyer got to wear his new Giants’ uniform. He was quite a hit at the ballpark, even though he was extremely tired:

Over the weekend, we took some better pictures of a much more lively Sawyer:

Luckily, we recently purchased an orange sheet for his bed! We’ll get a picture of his Giants hoodie and his adorable baseball hat (I missed the best part of it in the first picture) the next time we see a game, hopefully very soon.

It just so happened that the Cleveland Indians were playing in Oakland this week, for the first and only time this season, so Abby and I met up with our friend Erin to see the game this past Saturday.

Sawyer at his first baseball game

If you have been following along, I think you’ll agree that Sawyer has had quite an amazing run of new experiences these past few weeks. He has become more of a trooper than even I expected, and is seemingly capable of doing (or maybe it’s enduring) just about anything, provided he has a little space to spread out from time to time.

We found our seats and settled in to watch the game (naturally we missed the first inning when four runs were scored). He started out strong, very focused and intent on watching the game:

Shortly thereafter, Sawyer began erping up all over, first Erin then me (so much so that he pretty much exhausted our entire supply of bibs and burp-cloths). Then the Oakland mascot made a mildly obscene gesture at Abby for wearing her Indians hat (no pic of that, sadly). At this point, we realized our location in the stadium was much too loud and disorienting, so we moved further down the outfield line to get some open space around us. Sawyer seemed happier and more comfortable too:

And now we finally have some new pictures of the three of us. Thanks, Erin!
