Sawyer hates loud noises in the kitchen, so he was beside himself when I was making milkshakes. First, he grabbed me around the legs and pulled me down to his level. Once there, he took my hand, pulled me out of the kitchen, and told me where to sit on the couch. Of course once he was calm I went right back to it. He wasn’t happy about that.
Thankfully I was quick, and had a glass ready for him when he came running for me. I started him with his favorite monkey straw, but the shake was too thick. Once in the living room, Abby and I ditched the straw and let him drink it straight from the glass, all by himself. He did well in the beginning:
Then, as always, he got ornery:
Thank you, Mema D!
I’m not sure how she calmed him down, but Sawyer actually sat still long enough to read a book with MeMa D. Stumpy, the friendliest and most lovable kitten on earth, added even more cuteness to the scene:
Stumpy makes his move:
Watching Sawyer’s toes ever so patiently:
Sawyer was very amused:
This went on for a good five minutes. It must have been enough to wear Stumpy out for the night, because he was out like a light by Diana’s side:
I was very excited to see snow on the ground on the first part of our visit to MeMa and PePa D’s house. They have such a great hill for sledding. Although the first batch of snow was too light and fluffy, Sawyer absolutely loved being outside in it.
Here he is with MeMa getting ready for the snow:
Thankfully, the boots slow him down:
How does this work?
If you say so:
Riding along:
Headed for the trailer:
He must know there’s a race car inside:
Cold:
Abby’s favorite picture (and mine too):
Sawyer do it:
We had a ton of snow on the second part of our time in Bath, and this time is was perfect for sledding. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him laugh so hard, and after every run he screamed, “Again, again, again!” Here he is with me:
And with Abby:
“Again, again, again!” Of course, the video from his best solo run was already posted way back in early January.
All of the mental notes I made about our time in Ohio have disappeared, but I guess that’s part of having the flu. Even though the details are foggy, the pictures and videos tell a good enough story on their own, especially this one with the piano and the kitty-cat.
Sawyer loved playing the “nano.” He’s quite good at it too, but he was forever tempted by the cat toys. Here’s one of the first times he sat before the piano. You can see he doesn’t last long:
I love that he wonders why the kitty doesn’t have any cars. He eventually caught Stumpleford (my nickname for the kitty) but was then tempted by the stairs:
This is pretty much the drill when watching Sawyer at the Doernberg’s: piano, kitty, stairs. To be fair, we have none of those things here, so I can’t really blame him. Plus, it is a great big place, and is so much fun to explore.
Get ready for cute overload.
He woke up to find three birthday balloons:
His favorite was the one with Dora, Boots, and Diego playing soccer:
Stamps!
A choo-choo train and bing-bing-bing crossing:
Patiently waiting for his next present:
And moving way too slow at the unwrapping:
Fire cuck!
Back to the stamps:
Here you go, Momma:
Very happy:
Wee-ohh, wee-ohh, wee-ohh:
Studying everything new:
Making his move:
Gotcha:
You stand here:
Wee-ohh again:
Talking to Uncle Kevin while he plays:
Oh, I see how this works:
Anything else in here?
Nope:
No, really. There’s nothing in there, Sawyer:
I’m gonna make this next (really, he’s going to convince me to do it for him):
Abby put his garage together while he napped:
Later in the day, we skyped with our parents to sing happy birthday to him:
Wearing his #2 shirt from Mema and Pepa T and playing with his new cars from Mema and Pepa D:
Note sure about the candle:
More interested in the cars:
So serious, Sawyer:
Candle, again:
Looking to Momma for guidance:
So sweet:
It took him a couple of minutes to fully comprehend the awesomeness of his new garage (it really is amazing, Abby did a phenomenal job of discovering it and then finding one to buy):
But he took to the cars right away:
Skyping:
Here’s one very happy two year old:
He played with his new garage for a solid hour while we skyped with my brother and sister. He was so focused on his new cars and garage that he barely paid any attention to the rest of us. It was nearly impossible to get him away from it and into the shower. He finally fell asleep at 10pm. I’d say he had a very good day.
Thanks again to each of our families for helping us celebrate his second birthday, I can’t wait to see you again this weekend!
I tried for a couple days to get Sawyer to “read” the book that his Grandma D. gave him a few months ago. It wasn’t easy, but I was able to get him to do it this morning. The video is a bit wobbly in areas due to the fact that I am holding the camera while trying to get us in the shot.
Happy Birthday to my mom, and Sawyer’s grandma!
Abby and her mother put together a beautiful Easter basket for Sawyer on Sunday morning:
Judging by this picture, I’d say he was really excited to see it:
He loved the elephant puzzle that Abby picked out for him:
Diana and Sawyer share a moment:
He put the baby elephant on top:
Apparently he can now open any door he pleases, which is perfect for his new favorite past-time of unraveling toilet paper rolls:
He looks so much taller already:
Happy belated Easter everyone! Make sure you take a look at the pictures from his first Easter, remember the outfit my Grandmother bought for him? And the rooster do? He’s growing up so fast!
A big thank you goes out to my mom for sending Sawyer some new toys. The wrapping paper mesmerized him as soon as he saw it!
The matching of his outfit was completely an accident. The shirt was a gift from Grandma Penny.
You know he had to try at least one.
Here is the video of him “opening” the box. He makes quick work of it. He manages to push through the top of the box. His birthday and Christmas will be a lot of fun.
As you saw from the video, there was a great book of first words, with a cat on the front, of course. Another toy has little beads that change color.
This one has knobs that twist and click.
Thank you Thinker Toys in Bath. We will visit you in December.
Grandma D. headed back home earlier this week. Sawyer has been a bit of a handful lately, so it was even harder to see her go. Reinforcements are on their way, however, Grandma Penny and Grandpa Steve arrive in five days!
I think my mom had a pretty good time!
Sawyer’s new favorite toy - the coaster.
I had a really good time too!
Having fun in the tunnel.
Spotting Grandma at the end of the tunnel.
It was a great week!
