So, blogging is not nearly as easy at it used to be. Why, you may ask. Well, it is because Sawyer is mobile. He used to lay or sit, playing quietly with his toys. It was easy for me to sit next to him and play on my mac as I wanted to. Those days, however, are sadly behind us. When he isn’t trying to french the leg of the coffee table, he is trying to type on my laptop (very emphatically, I might add - always with the caps lock). Luckily, however, since he isn’t fond of sleeping at night anymore, I will blog during naptime (if I can stay awake).
It was very hot the second part of the week while we were in Ohio. As we try to pack in as much as we can, and see as many people as we can, we ran down to the Short North to visit with dear friends, Gretchen and Jesse, who Scott used to work with ten years ago at Lindey’s in German Village. We met up at Jeni’s Ice Cream parlor, which has now become my favorite ice cream. If only it didn’t cost $35 to send it to SF.
Gretchen is a very loyal follower of the Sawyer blog. We are so happy that she recently became engaged, even if it means she is moving to Montana. Gretchen gave Sawyer the most adorable hat and t-shirt, purchased from Loot. A big thank you again to Gretchen!
Here are Gretchen and Sawyer. Sawyer is wearing the hat which Gretchen gave him.
Gretchen has so far won the prize for the being the person on whom Sawyer has thrown up on the most times in the shortest amount of time. Our friend Erin had previously held the title on the day that we took Sawyer to his first baseball game, Indians vs. A’s, in Oakland. Congratulations Gretchen! I know you are very honored.

We also met up with friends Amanda and Erin. Erin was visiting home the same week we were. Somehow we managed only to get pictures of Amanda. Perhaps Erin wanted Gretchen to enjoy her day as the new record holder.
Although it took some time to get these pics up, it is perfect timing. Happy Birthday to Amanda on the 5th and Jesse’s, just past, on the 1st!
Our friend from Columbus, Amanda, visited San Francisco while we were in Ohio, as is so often the case. Luckily, we had one day overlap before she flew home. Amanda stayed with Erin in Berkeley, where they visited many ice cream shops. They came into the city on Sunday afternoon so that Amanda could meet Sawyer. We had a fun day at the Ferry Building and Chinatown.

We were worn out after our epic walk. It was a very fun day!
It just so happened that the Cleveland Indians were playing in Oakland this week, for the first and only time this season, so Abby and I met up with our friend Erin to see the game this past Saturday.
If you have been following along, I think you’ll agree that Sawyer has had quite an amazing run of new experiences these past few weeks. He has become more of a trooper than even I expected, and is seemingly capable of doing (or maybe it’s enduring) just about anything, provided he has a little space to spread out from time to time.
We found our seats and settled in to watch the game (naturally we missed the first inning when four runs were scored). He started out strong, very focused and intent on watching the game:
Shortly thereafter, Sawyer began erping up all over, first Erin then me (so much so that he pretty much exhausted our entire supply of bibs and burp-cloths). Then the Oakland mascot made a mildly obscene gesture at Abby for wearing her Indians hat (no pic of that, sadly). At this point, we realized our location in the stadium was much too loud and disorienting, so we moved further down the outfield line to get some open space around us. Sawyer seemed happier and more comfortable too:
And now we finally have some new pictures of the three of us. Thanks, Erin!
Play Ball!
