If Scott had his way, there would have been a Mother’s Day post up here. I have been under the weather, literally, as the SF fog has conspired against me in the past few days. I would not let Scott take any pictures of me on Mother’s Day looking like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, so perhaps later in the week. Instead, I have created a post that would be better suited to Father’s Day. It commemorates Sawyer turning five months old and Scott’s ancient Ralph Lauren hat.
The weather has been especially strange here this week. This past weekend, we had our normal pea soup, cold (about low 50’s), fog covered days and nights. Today, however, and for the next few days we expect to see 80-90°. Sawyer can finally wear his summertime gear. So he was rocking his preppy Ralph Lauren look today. Scott came home early today in order to help me as I was still feeling a bit crummy. He immediately helped to complete Sawyer’s preppy look.
For a quick comparison, here is Sawyer when he was just shy of two months old in the same hat.
Thankfully Sawyer is a baby who loves to wear hats, because I am a mom who loves to get them for him.
I purchased this hat as a belated Father’s Day present for Scott last year when Sawyer was just a Woggy. This hat is a replica of a hat that Scott has had since 1991. He purchased it at the Lazarus in Uptown Oxford when he was a freshman at Miami University. Love is not a strong enough word for the emotion that Scott feels toward his hat. He put a tremendous amount of time and effort into getting it to fit and look just right.
Scott’s hat used to be the same color as Sawyer’s hat is now. I washed Sawyer’s cap a lot in trying to get it to look similar to Scott’s. We were even going to use a dremel on it to give it some destruction.
Did I mention that this hat is one year older that I have known Scott? I tried to help mend it back in 1999 when the fastener in the back gave out. Scott ended up using a safety pin technique that he learned from an old friend, Steve Susi.
I don’t have any new stats on Sawyer’s weight or height. There is no doctor’s check-up this month. His accomplishments grow each day. Every morning he wakes up to produce a new sound. This past weekend he perfected the “muh, ma, mom, moms” with a little “buh, buh” for flavor. This morning it was a motor boat effect with his lips that sent little bubbles of saliva into the air. His biggest achievement so far, though is his soldier crawling inchworm maneuver.
Now for my new favorite pictures of Scott and Sawyer horsing around together.
