My uncle Mark and aunt Kelly visited us for a few days after hiking in Yosemite. Hiking sounds so meager when you consider they went there to hike Half Dome. The hike is approximately 17 miles long, and takes about 10-12 hours to hike from the valley floor to the peak during which time the elevation increases by about 4800’ feet.

Hiking Half Dome is an amazing accomplishment to do once, but Mark and Kelly completed it twice in three days, with a smaller hike in between, due to the unfortunate circumstance that their 35mm camera’s film did not catch to document reaching the peak on the first day! They got very acquainted with my foot massager upon arriving at our place.

Deliriously tired

Kelly and Sawyer

To say that Sawyer gets amped up when we have visitors would be an understatement. He doesn’t want to miss any of the excitement! Mark uses an old sleepytime song, which he invented (although some parts sounds similar to “Bonanza”) when their son Steven was young. It worked like a charm. Sawyer was in a sleepytime trance.

Mark sings the sleepytime song for Sawyer and puts him in a trance.

What a fun visit!

Sawyer had a corner in our old apartment that we affectionately called Sawyerland. He was never really able to explore it until right before moved, for one he wasn’t as mobile then and two it wasn’t as easily accessible. That all changed when we moved into our new apartment.

Abby is so unbelievably talented at arranging things to look right visually and work well functionally, and Sawyerland 2.0 has to be the happiest place I’ve ever seen:

Oh, and the Sawyer monsters (see parts one and two of that saga to refresh your memory) have finally arrived!

There are books and his favorite art cards in boxes on the ground (Sawyer pulls all of this stuff out first):

And more books on the bottom shelf:

And stuffed animals on the second shelf:

I think he likes it here:

He can sit and play for hours at a time:

Sawyer looks somewhat tame in these pictures, but that’s all a thing of the past. Every morning he goes in there and pulls almost everything off the shelves, spreads his art cards out, and drags out of the rest of toys too. And every night Abby and I put it all back together for him.

Thanks to Abby’s Uncle Mark and Aunt Kelly for Sawyer’s shirt, he looks so good in it. Very excited to have you out for a visit at the end of September!
