Sawyer likes to open any and all of the cabinet doors he can reach, often to see if he’ll fit inside, but usually just to pull everything out. Witness the scene that Abby found in the kitchen one afternoon last week:

Sawyer was here.

Elephant was his calling card:

Elephant is his calling card.

No doubt Sawyer would have let his elephant take the heat on this one:

Elephant is his calling card.

That’s easily the third or fourth time we’ve cleaned up this mess. Needless to say that cabinet is now empty. He just never stops exploring or testing his limits, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Just wait until you see the videos from the beach today!

Grandma Doernberg always buys a cake for Sawyer and I when we visit. She gets to clean up the mess!

Cakeface.

He’s still practicing eating with a spoon. You wouldn’t know by these pictures, but he is getting slightly better.

Oh so messy.

Oh so messy.

Please note, the plate is upside down.

Oh so messy.

“All done!”

Oh so messy.

“I’m getting down…NOW!”

I'm getting down now!

Taco night. Enough said.

Taco night

Taco night

Still cute even covered in black beans.

These pictures are just over two weeks old, so I can’t recall exactly what he was eating, but it looks like some kind of pasta for the main course then a little chocolate for desert. He was near the end of his meal when I started taking these pictures, so the food was gone but his sign language video was still playing.

I really had to win over his attention:

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Once I got him laughing he was all mine!

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

His teeth are the sharpest things on earth, no wonder teething was such a pain:

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Okay, fun’s over:

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

Messiest. Baby. Ever.

All of a sudden, Sawyer insists upon holding the spoon when we feed him. Abby says he’s ready to learn how to feed himself, but he’s clearly not capable yet. Just look at the results:

Sawyer is a very messy eater

He’s quite pleased with himself:

Sawyer is a very messy eater

Still flashing his innocent look:

Sawyer is a very messy eater

Sawyer is a very messy eater

Sawyer is a very messy eater

His hands are a mess:

Sawyer is a very messy eater

Sawyer is a very messy eater

But his feet somehow stayed clean:

Sawyer is a very messy eater

Now he’s getting excited:

Sawyer is a very messy eater

Sawyer is a very messy eater

Such a handsome little guy, even when covered in sweet potatoes:

Sawyer is a very messy eater

Sawyer is a very messy eater

My new favorite picture of him:
