In a weekend full of so many great moments, this one is by far my favorite. After a long weekend, everyone was tired, even Sawyer. He took a nice, warm shower, hopped in his nice, warm Elmo jammas, and read on the bed with his Mema and Pepa.

He rarely sits still this long:

He’s paying especially close attention too:

I love his little feet:

And his hands on his knees:

What a great moment!

I originally titled this movie, “Sawyer tips a tower and reads his counting colors book” but I think the real story is his adorably sweet “bye-bye” at the end. Watch:

He was a handful on Sunday morning, but he woke up from his nap a new Sawyer. After quickly building and then toppling our lego tower, he sat calmly next to me and read a bunch of books. That usually only happens at night.

Sawyer, I can deal with a lot of your craziness when you share such wonderful moments with me. Sometimes I think you know that, and give just enough to keep me going!

As usual, I completely spaced on taking pictures of Sawyer when he is with his extended family. Fortunately, Abby snagged three good ones of Kevin and Sawyer on Sunday, and I managed to get three more this morning.

Sawyer absolutely loved having Kevin here. If he wasn’t in the room with him, Sawyer asked where Uncle Kevin was until they were reunited. In fact, the first thing he said to me when I got home today was, “where’s Uncle Kevin?”

No doubt his love for Kevin is predicated on his willingness to do anything and everything to Sawyer him entertained. For instance, Kevin fits in Sawyer’s hizzy:

Which is a good thing because Sawyer loves to hang out in there, and loves to read books too:

Especially “Cars and Trucks and Things that Go”:

Sawyer was watching Sesame Street this morning while I got ready for work. Kevin laid down beside him on the floor, giving him three of his bestest buddies: elephant, penguin, and Uncle Kevin:

Unfortunately I couldn’t get both of them to smile at the same time:

But Sesame Street was pretty funny:

Thanks for a great visit, Kevin. I’m glad you and Sawyer are even closer than before, and I know that he’ll cherish these days for the rest of his life. I certainly will.

I didn’t get many pictures of my Mom and Sawyer when we were home for Christmas, so I made a point of getting some really good ones in what little time we had together on our last trip. I think these turned out really well.

You may also consider this an exercise in documenting the many faces of Sawyer, and the many different ways he tries to sneak his binky back in when he knows he’s not supposed to have it.

He loves that truck book, even though the trucks are from the 1970s:

Here comes the binky:

Busted! But he doesn’t care:

I know he loves reading with you, Mom, almost as much as I love seeing the two of you together. Come visit soon!

In addition to lining up his blocks, he likes to group and count them.

He likes to be destructive too, and talk about boogers!

This video is kind of unsteady in the beginning. It is worth it, though, especially if you want to learn about trucks and wheels.

As many of you know, my birthday was just a few days ago. My mom and dad were discussing the fact that it didn’t seem that 35 years had passed since I was born. To them, I should be about 20 — sounds good to me. I’m sure Penny and Steve feel the same way…plus one year.

Uh, oh! He's coming for me now.

Thanks to my friend Katherine, who shared a book that she created for her husband and daughter to enjoy. It is titled, “Before Daddy was Daddy”! Such a creative idea!

I tried for a couple days to get Sawyer to “read” the book that his Grandma D. gave him a few months ago. It wasn’t easy, but I was able to get him to do it this morning. The video is a bit wobbly in areas due to the fact that I am holding the camera while trying to get us in the shot.

Happy Birthday to my mom, and Sawyer’s grandma!

Our usual routine of reading to Sawyer has taken a turn, now more often than not he gets to direct the action. Yesterday I saw him pointing to things in one of his books, and letting Abby tell him what each thing is. That’s pretty astute for the little bugger, I don’t know how he does it.

Tonight, after dinner and before his bath, Sawyer and I sat down to read one of his all-time favorite books:

Notice that ball or “ba” is now in his vocabulary. He’s big into belly buttons too:

Granted, he reads this book at least seven times a day, but he really is getting good at it:

Sawyer, I love your little pointy fingers!

Yes, Sawyer is using new words everyday since arriving in Ohio. So far he has said, in his own way, Grandpa, Grandma, fire truck, read, ball, and airplane. Unfortunately, he won’t say them on cue yet. He will just pick up a toy and say “Airplane!” and then go along his merry way.

Here Sawyer is reading with “Grumpa and Grumma” Truitt.

It’s a happy day for Scott and I. Sawyer can now get his own snacks and drinks by himself with minimal mess. His little snack cups hold in the food. A small bit escapes every now and again, but he does a clean up sweep after the fact. The sippy has been a few slow months in coming, but I think he has finally gotten the hang of it.
