It’s been a big couple of days for us, and especially so for Sawyer. As I was eating breakfast on Friday morning, I looked over to see Sawyer on his tummy playing with his toys. Not a minute later he was sitting up on his own. Abby reported a similar sighting the day before. There was no audible struggle, no grunts or groans. Neither of us had seen him practice this, as far as we can tell he just did it.

This morning, Abby looked over to see Sawyer standing in his crib. Standing in his crib! Again, all on his own. Needless to say, I lowered the crib this afternoon. There is no chance for escape now, Sawyer!

The three of us did our best to recreate these scenes for all of you, and while not everything is exactly as we experienced it, I think we hit all of the high notes.

Sawyer goes from sitting to standing to flat on his back and back again:

Sawyer takes a tumble, but Abby fixes it:

Sawyer up close:

Sawyer explores the space (it’s a long way down, but there’s no way he’s getting out without us):

On top of all of this, Sawyer hasn’t been feeling well. He was really congested today, and had his first ever runny nose too. He hasn’t slept well the past few nights, but we’re hoping for better luck tonight (so far so good).

It amazes me that even in his misery he retains such joy in life. You would never have guessed he didn’t feel well, would you?
