Trucks go up and down our street all of the time, so it wasn’t completely out of the ordinary to see the one on the left stop to pick up some junk. However, it was incredibly bizarre to see a garbage truck back up to it seconds later. And then when the driver of the first truck pushed a couch out of the back and into the garbage truck, well, all bets are off. Neither Abby not I have never seen anything so ridiculous — it really bothered Sawyer too! Watch:

All that aside, doesn’t he look great in his new truck pajamas?

After the sand table, Sawyer showed Scott the construction pit, trucks, and truck ramp. He didn’t leave the truck in the construction pit for long.

He had some sort of plan.

He's got a plan...not sure what.

I just wasn’t sure what it was.

He's got a plan...not sure what.

It had something to do with the rocks.

He's got a plan...not sure what.

Ah, he wanted to continue filling the dump truck far from the pit.

He's got a plan...not sure what.

Going back for more rocks.

He's got a plan...not sure what.

Now it is time to race.

Big trucks.

This is a hard hat area, Scott.

Big trucks.

You too, Sawyer.

Big trucks.

It didn’t stay on for long.

Big trucks.

What a cutie!

When he’s not running around like a madman, Sawyer likes to play with his trucks on the beach. It’s really quite refreshing — he goes about it quietly, doesn’t fuss or complain, and just enjoys himself:

Putting sand in trucks to make tracks on the beach

Ocean Beach is the best place for him to play like this. It’s flat and wide open, so the waves are less condensed and much less powerful. Unfortunately, it’s rarely warm enough to be there for long, and truthfully I was pushing it by going there last Saturday, but I love playing in the sand too.

Friday morning was especially chilly, so Abby had Sawyer all bundled up for school. He was looking so handsome she suggested I get a picture. I accidentally started a movie, and he continued to ham it up, so I kept on recording:

“What trucks do you see on my backback?” is quite a sentence, Sawyer. I love your interpretive dance for the cement mixer too. What will you think of next?

Last weekend, our old neighbors Zane and Christine brought their 20 month old son Dylan over to play. It was still relatively warm in the late afternoon, so we all headed down to the backyard to let the boys wear each other out. I grabbed the basketball hoop as an afterthought, but it turned out to be the main event.

Actually, that’s not entirely true. The real highlight was the neighbor next door watering his plants. Both boys were enthralled with the hose:

Anyone else notice that Sawyer’s starting to shoot the basketball now instead of just slamming it down? That’s my boy. Well, that’s probably more from Pepa T and Uncle Kevin. I never had much of a touch.

Of course no trip to the backyard would be complete without a dump truck race. Here’s Sawyer taking his truck for a spin:

After dinner and a lot more playing, the boys said goodbye with a high-five:

The high five

I still can’t believe Abby captured this picture. Awesome.

Sawyer hung out the window to say goodbye to the Sweets as they walked down the street:

He was quite proud of his performance:

“Bye! See ya! Bye! See ya!”

He’s pretty cute when he’s tired. Otherwise he’s an absolute handful.

Our car isn’t nearly big enough for all five of us, so I rented a truck for the weekend. Sawyer, of course, loves trucks, ever since we rode in a fancy truck back from the airport one time. He hopped right in the front seat and proceeded to touch everything within his reach. Mema T kept a close eye on him:

He’s a natural:

Speaking of which, look at that soccer stance! It was his first one, completely unprompted by me or his coach. He just walked up and did it:

Finally, some (small) proof that he is paying attention, he just prefers to do his own thing most of the time.

Yes, he sings, “Cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cars, cucks.” Watch:

By this stage of the trip, Sawyer was a seasoned pro at unwrapping gifts. In fact, he no longer even bothered to wait for anyone to tell him he could, he just brought one at a time to the family room, crouched down, and opened it up.

Big Mater!

You know he’s hoping for a car or truck:

I think he knows what’s coming up:

Surprise, it’s a big rig!

Wow

Abby was still sleeping so she missed it, but there was no way to stop him. I really wish I had taken more pictures, he was at his orneriest and cutest.

The three of us are leaving behind our familiar routine for a trip back home in the morning. This may be the last garbage truck he’ll see up close for a few weeks:

I can’t wait for everyone to see what it’s like to ride in the car with him. He calls out every car and truck he sees, so much so that I do it too. Now that’s cute when I’m with him, but my friends at work think it’s a little weird.

See you soon garbage truck!

Sawyer and I went to the Bay Area Discovery Museum on Tuesday with our friends. We had a ball discovering all the museum has to offer.

Then it was outside to the pirate’s cove where Sawyer figured out how to get on the play boat.

Finally, finishing our morning with the construction area. What a fun day!
